The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the arrival of about 100 United States military personnel and related equipment at Bauchi Airfield.
The development was disclosed on Monday in a statement issued by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information.
According to him, the deployment followed a formal request by the Federal Government of Nigeria and is part of a planned initiative to support military training, technical assistance, and intelligence sharing.
He stressed that “the US personnel are technical specialists serving strictly in an advisory and training capacity. They are not combat forces.”
He added, “All training activities will be conducted under the authority, direction, and control of the Nigerian Government and in close coordination with the Nigerian Armed Forces.”
The DHQ explained that the collaboration is designed to provide Nigeria with specialized technical capabilities to strengthen efforts in deterring terrorist threats and protecting vulnerable communities across the country.
Uba further stated that Nigerian troops and the visiting US advisers will begin a series of joint training and intelligence-focused cooperation initiatives aimed at improving operational effectiveness.
Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Defence Headquarters assured Nigerians that it will maintain “continued transparency and the provision of clear, accurate, and timely information regarding the military cooperation efforts.”
