The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ajuji Ahmed, has expressed confidence that the party will not only retain control of Kano State in the 2027 general elections but also secure victories in at least three other northern states, despite recent defections within the party ranks.
In a statement made to the press, Ahmed reassured party members and supporters that the NNPP’s momentum was unstoppable, highlighting that the defections of some key figures would not derail the party’s electoral strategy or its growing influence in the region.
“Our vision for a new Nigeria remains unwavering,” Ahmed said. “While some individuals may choose to move to other parties, the core of the NNPP is stronger than ever. We will retain Kano and win a minimum of three northern states in the upcoming elections.”
The chairman’s comments come as the party prepares for what promises to be a highly competitive election season. While the NNPP has faced challenges, including high-profile exits, the party’s base in Kano remains steadfast, and party officials believe the organization’s message resonates strongly with voters seeking an alternative to the traditional political structures.
Kano, which has historically been a key political battleground, is seen as a critical state for any party vying for national leadership. The NNPP’s stronghold in the state has been a point of pride for the party since its breakthrough in the 2023 elections.
Analysts suggest that despite the defections, the NNPP’s grassroots mobilization efforts and its appeal to young voters could play a significant role in securing not just Kano, but other northern states as well. The party is also expected to intensify its campaigns in the coming months, focusing on issues such as economic development, security, and youth empowerment.
As Nigeria looks ahead to the 2027 elections, all eyes will be on the NNPP and its ability to consolidate its power in the north, retain Kano, and challenge the dominance of the country’s traditional political forces.
