The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 22 suspects over their alleged involvement in various criminal activities across the state.
The arrests were made in connection with offences such as armed robbery, drug trafficking, shop-breaking, burglary, vandalism, and theft of domestic animals.
This was made known in a statement issued on Tuesday in Dutse by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Shi’isu Adam.
According to the statement, officers attached to the Shuwarin Division apprehended one Sulaiman Usman, 30, who was found with a motorcycle suspected to have been stolen. The motorcycle reportedly had blood stains on it at the time of recovery.
“The suspect confessed to having boarded a commercial motorcyclist at the outskirts of Bauchi State, where he attacked the rider with an iron object and made away with the motorcycle,” Adam said.
The command also carried out operations that led to the arrest of several suspected drug dealers. During the raids, officers recovered three blocks of cannabis and 7,096 assorted illicit drugs.
Adam identified those arrested for drug-related offences as Ibrahim Abdullahi, Alhaji Balarabe Adamu, Hassan Muhammad, Saidu Barrister, Magaji Usman, Suraja Ibrahim, Idris Adamu, Ibrahim Mamuwa, Kabiru Abdullahi, Alhaji Adamu, Garba Kalacci, Adamu Abdullahi, Sadik Abubakar, Aliyu Sabo and Nafisa Tasiu.
“The operation is part of our ongoing efforts to curb substance abuse, particularly among youths, and to dismantle networks that fuel social vices and insecurity,” he said.
In a separate development in Hadejia, eight suspects were arrested over alleged shop-breaking. Police recovered 39 yards of different materials and three sewing machines from the suspects.
“During investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime and will be prosecuted accordingly,” Adam noted.
The police spokesman further revealed that officers in Kazaure arrested a suspected burglar, Usman Nura, 22. Items recovered from him included a solar battery and an air conditioner believed to have been stolen.
Operations conducted in Gwaram, Maigatari and Taura also resulted in the arrest of two suspected vandals, Abdullahi Abubakar, 20, and Abubakar Aminu Baffa, 35. Police recovered a large quantity of vandalised cable wires from them.
In addition, five suspects were apprehended over alleged theft of domestic animals in Maigatari, Sule Tankarkar and Hadejia Local Government Areas. Thirteen animals were recovered during the operation.
“The recovery has brought renewed hope to affected farmers and livestock owners whose livelihoods depend on such assets,” the police spokesman said.
Adam added that all suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
He also quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Dahiru Muhammad, as commending officers and men of the command for their dedication and professionalism. The commissioner urged them to maintain the momentum.
He called on residents to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information. He assured the public of the command’s resolve to safeguard lives and property throughout Jigawa State.
