The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of more than 57,000 personnel across the country to ensure safety during the Easter celebrations. The mobilisation, approved by Commandant General Abubakar Audi, is designed to strengthen national security, protect lives and property, and safeguard critical infrastructure during the holiday period.

According to a statement issued Thursday by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, the operation covers all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The deployment includes tactical units, intelligence operatives, and specialised squads placed on high alert to respond swiftly to any threat.

Babawale explained that security efforts would focus on high-traffic areas such as churches, shopping centres, parks, and recreational facilities. Both overt patrols and covert surveillance teams will be stationed to deter criminal activity and reassure citizens. “This massive deployment is a proactive measure to address potential threats while guaranteeing a peaceful holiday for all Nigerians,” he said.

Under the directive of the Commandant General, Zonal Commanders, State Commandants, and Provosts of Colleges have been tasked with coordinating operations in their jurisdictions. The NSCDC stressed that collaboration with sister security agencies will be central to maintaining order. Parents and guardians were also urged to monitor their children closely and prevent them from being drawn into activities that could disrupt public peace.

The Corps highlighted the importance of vigilance, intelligence sharing, and rapid response to public reports. Specialised units such as the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Female Squad, and the Crack Squad have been placed on maximum alert. These teams are expected to provide targeted support in areas considered vulnerable.

Babawale further encouraged citizens to remain observant and report suspicious behaviour to the nearest security formation. He noted that public cooperation is vital to the success of the operation, especially during festive periods when large gatherings increase the risk of criminal incidents.

The deployment reflects the NSCDC’s broader strategy of proactive security management during national celebrations. By mobilising personnel nationwide, the Corps aims to reassure communities, prevent violence, and protect critical assets. The initiative also underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that Easter festivities proceed without disruption.

With heightened surveillance, coordinated patrols, and inter-agency collaboration, the NSCDC hopes to deliver a seamless and secure holiday season. The Corps reiterated its determination to safeguard citizens and maintain peace, stressing that national security remains its top priority.
