A group under the aegis of the Coalition of Yobe East Progressive Youths has raised the sum of N188 million to support the gubernatorial ambition of former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan.

Senator Lawan acknowledged the contribution in a personal statement he signed and published on his official Facebook page on Monday.

“As of this reporting stage, the sum of approximately ₦188,000,000 (One hundred and eighty-eight million) has been realised through pledges, cash donations and bank transfers. But what moves me even more is not just the figure, but the commitment and story behind it,” the senator wrote.

He further stated that he is aware that the money is being contributed for the purchase of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination form for Yobe State.

“I am deeply aware that this entire effort is aimed at a singular, important purpose: the purchase of my nomination and expression of interest forms of the All Progressives Congress to contest the governorship election in Yobe State in 2027. By this gesture, you have invested in a shared vision and mission for the future of our dear state. You have said, through your sacrifices, that you want a government that is truly owned by the people, open, accountable and transparent,” he added.

The former Senate President, who was an aspirant for the top job in the country, was defeated by the incumbent president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the APC 2022 presidential primary election.
