Former governors from the South East states have rallied to form a forum in Enugu State on Tuesday.

The group, named the South East Former Governors Forum, comprises all former governors from the region.

In a communiqué read by the Minister of Works and former governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, the governors said the newly formed body would serve as a platform to support and advise current governors in the region.

“We now have the birth of the South-East Former Governors Forum today, the 7th of April, 2026.

“The body is to support our serving governors in the South East and advise them on key zonal and national matters. The forum shall accommodate all former governors of the South-East, irrespective of party affiliation,” Umahi said.

Signaling support for the President’s re-election, Umahi also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointments, infrastructure, and other forms of support to the region.

“We commend Mr President, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, very highly for the appointments, some of them very key, given to sons and daughters of the South East, and for the infrastructural development in the region, just as he is doing in other parts of the country.

“We also thank Mr President for his support to the governors of the South-East. We are grateful.

“We boldly state that all the governors of the South East are supporting Mr President’s re-election, and we will continue to give that support,” Umahi said.

Those present at the meeting included Dr Sullivan Chime (Enugu State), Chief Martin Elechi (Ebonyi State), Dr Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State), Dr Chris Ngige (Anambra State), and Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State).
