The leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a new turn, as a faction claiming to be the authentic leadership of the party has emerged.

While speaking to newsmen, the group’s leader, Don Obinna, rejected the coalition-backed National Working Committee (NWC) led by David Mark and distanced the faction from Nafiu Bala, who also claims the party’s top position.

“We have watched with amusement how a few Nigerians, with no real understanding of issues concerning our party, the ADC, have intervened with emotions devoid of reasoning and understanding.

“We therefore wish to correct a lot of misinformation in the public domain. But before doing this, we want to state that we are in total support of INEC’s position on this matter and commend the commission for its courage in doing what is right,” Obinna said.

Obinna explained that the faction emerged after an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday. He also dismissed Nafiu Bala’s claim to being the authentic national chairman, stating that Bala has never held the position of Deputy National Chairman of the party.
