Thousands of mourners gathered in Zuru, Kebbi State, to pay their final respects as the late Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, was laid to rest.
The funeral prayer took place at the Zuru Jumu’at Mosque around 6:00 p.m., led by Imam Suleiman Tanko. The event attracted a large number of sympathisers, including government officials, traditional rulers, and political leaders from within and outside the state.
The Speaker passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, after a long illness.
Among those present were Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris; the Emir of Zuru, Muhammadu Sanusi Sami Gomo III; Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar Tafida; Senator Muhammad Adamu Alieru; and former Governor Saidu Usman Nasamu Dakingari, along with members of the State House of Assembly and Executive Council.
Speaking at the funeral, Governor Idris described the late Speaker’s death as a huge loss to the state and the nation.
“His passing is a monumental loss not only to his family and the people of Zuru Emirate but to Kebbi State and the nation at large.
He was a man of humility, dedication, and unwavering commitment to legislative service and the progress of our state,” he said.
“The overwhelming turnout of mourners from within and beyond Kebbi State is a clear reflection of the impact he made on the lives of our people and the respect he earned across all levels.
“We pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives his family, the Kebbi State House of Assembly, and the entire people of our state the strength to bear this great loss.
“May his gentle soul rest in peace,” Idris added.
