The Ogun State Police Command has rolled out a comprehensive security plan for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Officers and operational assets have been deployed across 72 accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in the state to ensure safety and order during the exercise.
The UTME, organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to 25, 2026. Command spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi announced the deployment in a statement on Wednesday, stressing that the measures were intelligence-led and proactive. He explained that the plan aims to guarantee visible police presence, early detection of threats, and swift response to any incidents before, during, and after the examination period.
According to Babaseyi, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni directed all Area Commanders overseeing CBT centres to remain on heightened operational alert. They are tasked with supervising deployed personnel, maintaining sustained patrols around examination venues, and coordinating closely with Divisional Police Officers, tactical teams, and JAMB officials. The goal, he said, is to ensure seamless conduct of the exercise without disruption.
The command also issued a stern warning against examination malpractice, impersonation, or disorderly conduct. Babaseyi stated that any attempt to compromise the integrity of the UTME would be met with decisive action, including arrest and prosecution.
Commissioner Ojajuni assured residents of robust security coverage throughout the examination period. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and order while safeguarding the credibility of the UTME. He urged candidates to comply fully with examination guidelines and conduct themselves responsibly at all centres.
Ojajuni further called on the public to report suspicious activities through designated emergency lines. He emphasized that community cooperation remains vital to the success of the security plan.
The deployment reflects growing recognition of the importance of securing national examinations. Past incidents of malpractice, impersonation, and disruptions have raised concerns about fairness and credibility. By ensuring visible police presence and strict supervision, the Ogun State Command aims to reassure candidates, parents, and officials that the 2026 UTME will be conducted under safe conditions.
The UTME is a critical gateway for admission into Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions. Each year, hundreds of thousands of candidates sit for the exam, making it one of the largest standardized tests in the country. Ensuring its integrity is essential for public confidence in the education system.
The Ogun State Police Command’s measures highlight the broader role of law enforcement in supporting national institutions. By combining intelligence-led planning with operational readiness, the command seeks to prevent disruptions and uphold the credibility of the examination process.
As the UTME begins, attention will focus on how effectively these measures are implemented across the 72 centres. The success of the operation will not only safeguard candidates but also reinforce trust in Nigeria’s examination system.
