The Nigerian Army has relocated many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) into Monguno town, where they are now being kept in makeshift shelters.

In a statement, Lieutenant Ayodeji Abiodun, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Headquarters Sector 3 OPHK/MNJTF, Monguno, said new camps have been built within the town to accommodate the displaced persons.

He explained:

“With the construction of the new camps, many of these IDPs moved from the makeshift structures to the camps, except IDPs from areas within the Marte axis that still remain in the makeshift structures within the town. They rejected relocation to the new camps.”

The Army also revealed that intelligence reports showed that some residents of Gana Ali and Stadium IDP camps had been giving shelter to terrorist infiltrators who carry out attacks on military positions in the area.

According to the statement, these terrorists have made the Gana Ali and Stadium camps unsafe and inaccessible to other residents, as well as to members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Monguno.

It added that CJTF personnel operate across most parts of the town, except in areas like GG, Gana Ali, and Stadium IDP camps. This is because some CJTF members previously deployed there were killed by terrorists who infiltrated those locations.
