The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has warned the public about the activities of fraudsters impersonating its Commandant, Oluyemi Thomas Olatoye.
In a statement signed by the academy’s Public Relations Officer, Major Reuben Kovangiya, the NDA said scammers are pretending to be the commandant on various social media platforms to deceive people.
According to the statement, the fraudsters claim to offer contracts and other opportunities in the name of the commandant, with the aim of defrauding unsuspecting individuals.
The academy revealed that fake accounts are being used on platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, and X.
“The Academy wishes to unambiguously state that these accounts are fraudulent schemes designed to deceive and exploit innocent persons,” the statement said.
The NDA warned that anyone who interacts with such fake accounts does so at their own risk and stressed that it will not be responsible for any losses.
It also explained that all official communications are only shared through its verified channels, including its official website, recognised social media accounts, and reputable national newspapers.
The academy further made it clear that the commandant does not conduct official business through personal social media accounts or unofficial online platforms.
Members of the public were advised to stay alert, avoid suspicious accounts, and report any fraudulent activity to the appropriate authorities.
