A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Darlington Nnaoma Onyekacha, has urged Nigerian governors and State Houses of Assembly to properly use monthly allocations in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu.

Onyekacha made this statement while declaring his intention to contest for the Abia State House of Assembly on Thursday in Ikwuano.

He expressed concern that many rural communities across Nigeria remain underdeveloped despite the large amount of funds received by states and local governments.

According to him, poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and lack of infrastructure are still very high in rural areas, even with the steady inflow of funds to state and local government accounts.

He blamed the situation partly on the failure of State Houses of Assembly to properly hold governors and local government officials accountable.

He said:

“Most of the challenges that Nigeria is having today are from the rural and state levels and not from the president.

“It is not that the president is not releasing what it takes to build the states, but because of bad leadership in the state governments and the State Houses of Assembly,” Onyekacha said.

Onyekacha also promised to tackle underdevelopment in his Ikwuano constituency if elected, assuring that he would ensure funds meant for the area are properly used for development.
