The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, has urged residents to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a press conference in Umuahia, Emeka-Yellow said voting for the APC would mean bringing hardship and poor governance into Abia State.
He said:
“Voting for the APC is a vote for suffering, regression, and stagnation. We cannot bring the shortcomings of the federal government into our state.”
He also alleged that many APC supporters in Abia are politicians who were previously responsible for underdevelopment in the state.
According to him:
“They are attempting to rebrand themselves under a different platform, but Abians are wiser and will not be deceived again. We must remain vigilant.”
Emeka-Yellow stressed that Abia needs progressive and accountable leadership, not what he described as recycled politicians driven by personal interest.
He added:
“We have moved forward, and we refuse to go backwards.”
He called on political leaders across party lines to put aside their differences and work together to protect democracy, describing the 2027 election as very important for the future of Abia State and Nigeria.
The PDP also said it is ready to work with other opposition groups in the state to prevent any attempt by the APC to “infiltrate, destabilize, or dominate” the political space through undemocratic means.
Emeka-Yellow further stated that the PDP is well-prepared for the 2027 elections and urged members to remain united and support the party’s leadership under Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.
He assured that the party is strong and ready to present credible candidates for all positions.
The PDP also called on Nigerians to reject the APC nationwide in 2027, describing the ruling party as a “monumental failure” that has caused hardship.
According to him, Nigeria has experienced economic decline, rising insecurity, and loss of public trust over the years.
He said:
“Today, millions of Nigerians can barely afford basic necessities. Inflation has eroded incomes, unemployment has increased, and businesses are shutting down daily.”
He added that insecurity has worsened, with banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and communal clashes becoming more common.
Emeka-Yellow also accused the APC of weakening democratic institutions and promoting propaganda, alleging that governance has been reduced to media appearances instead of solving real problems.
He said:
“Real issues affecting citizens are ignored, and governance has been reduced to media spin.”
He further claimed there are attempts to turn Nigeria into a one-party state, describing it as a serious threat to democracy.
He concluded by urging Abia residents to stay alert and not allow the APC to take over the state.
“We implore Ndi Abia to continue being watchful and perceptive. Under no circumstances should Abia fall into the hands of the APC,” he said.
