The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr. Jasper Uche, has defected to the Labour Party, citing the developmental strides of Governor Alex Otti in the state.
Uche met with Governor Otti on Monday alongside some members of the Ihe Abia Organization, a support group he founded, and promised to work for the governor’s re-election bid.
“We are going to complement the efforts of my brothers who are working with you, and others who are not here, to ensure that we don’t just double Umunneochi votes, we will triple Umunneochi votes in 2027,” he said.
He added: “I have come to work. I came to complement what they are doing and to make sure that, because it is people I’m going to work with, we are not going to operate in silos.
“Your Excellency, we have come to make the work easier for you. That is why we are here.”
The governor, while receiving his guest, hinted that an official welcome rally would be organised for the former PDP stalwart.
“We are very open to receiving people. We are all Igbo people, and we are very hospitable. We have this motto: even when you are not part of us, we don’t see you as an enemy,” Governor Otti said.
