Suspected armed men have attacked Barbaji village in Jajaye Ward, Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, killing one person and leaving several others injured in a late-night assault.
The attack reportedly happened on Thursday night around 9:00 p.m. when about four gunmen arrived on motorcycles, dressed in khaki clothing, and targeted a local vigilante member identified as Alasan Yellow.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim was shot at close range in front of his shop, causing panic across the community. Another resident who attempted to intervene was also shot during the chaos.
The attackers were said to have moved to a nearby vigilante office where they opened fire indiscriminately before fleeing the scene, forcing residents to run for safety.
The commander of the Rogo vigilante group, Alhaji Haruna Barhaya, confirmed the incident, stating that one person died instantly while several others sustained injuries of varying severity.
He added that four injured victims are currently receiving treatment, with one critical case referred to a hospital in Gwarzo for advanced care.
Security operatives and local vigilantes reportedly evacuated the wounded and restored some calm to the area following the attack.
Authorities have since reinforced security in Rogo and surrounding communities, deploying joint patrol teams from neighbouring areas, including Kiru Local Government Area and parts of Kaduna State.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and support ongoing security operations aimed at tracking down those responsible for the attack.
