The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two young men accused of kidnapping and murdering a 17-year-old student, Thompson Adams, in Ikorodu. Adams, who had just completed the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), was reportedly lured to his assailants’ apartment before being killed.

Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani disclosed the arrests during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Wednesday. He identified the suspects as Elijah Emmanuel, 23, and Tony Ogenata, 21. According to Tijani, the duo was apprehended on Monday, April 27, at about 8 p.m., following credible intelligence linking them to the crime.
Investigations revealed that Adams, a former secondary schoolmate of the suspects, was returning from his examination hall on April 22 when he was enticed to their residence. There, he was killed. The police chief explained that the suspects concealed the victim’s body in a bag before disposing of it within the community.

Further interrogation uncovered that the suspects were also involved in an earlier case of kidnapping and murder. Tijani stated that on November 30, 2025, the pair abducted a young woman, who was reportedly the girlfriend of one of them. After contacting her family, they demanded a ransom of ₦300,000. Despite receiving the money, they killed the victim.
“After collecting the ₦300,000, they still went ahead and murdered the lady,” Tijani said, stressing the brutality of the suspects’ actions.

The Commissioner described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in tackling violent crime in Lagos. He assured that the suspects would face justice once investigations are concluded. “They will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation,” Tijani confirmed.

The killing of Adams has sent shockwaves through Ikorodu, particularly among students and families preparing for national examinations. The UTME is a critical step for Nigerian youths seeking admission into universities, and Adams’ death highlights the vulnerability of candidates during this period. His murder has drawn widespread condemnation, with many calling for stronger measures to protect students from criminal elements.
The revelation of the suspects’ involvement in two separate murders has further heightened public concern. Both cases underscore the dangers posed by individuals exploiting personal relationships to commit violent crimes. The fact that Adams was a former schoolmate of the suspects illustrates how trust can be manipulated with devastating consequences.
