A member of the House of Representatives, Isah Ambarura, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Ambarura represents Illela/Gwadabawa federal constituency in Sokoto state. He also serves as the deputy chairman of the house committee on rules and business.
In a related development, Jakduwa Kaikuku, who represents Bade/Jakusko federal constituency in Yobe state, has switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Benjamin Kalu, the deputy speaker of the house, announced the defections during plenary on Wednesday after reading their notices.
Explaining his decision, Ambarura said he exited the APC after “wide and careful consultations”. He added that his new political direction would improve his ability to serve the people in his constituency.
“My decision on this was informed by circumstances beyond my control within the APC, hence it compelled me to defect respectively,” he said.
On his part, Kaikuku linked his move to the “unresolved PDP leadership crisis”. He described the APC as a “stronger and equitable” platform.
The national assembly has witnessed a series of defections in recent months as political activities gather pace ahead of the 2027 general election.
On Tuesday, Muhammed Jajere, who represents Fika/Fune federal constituency in Yobe state, also left the PDP for the APC.
Last week, four lawmakers from Kano — Sani Wakili (Minjibir/Ungogo), Muktar Zakari (Tarauni), Umar Datti (Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam), and Abdulhakeem Ado (Wudil/Garko) — moved from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the ADC.
Similarly, Thaddeus Attah from Lagos, Usman Zubairu from Kaduna, and Sani Noma from Kebbi defected from the Labour Party (LP) and the APC to the ADC, respectively.
