Mustapha Sule Lamido, who flew the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag in the 2023 governorship election in Jigawa State, has secured the party’s nomination form to contest in the 2027 election.

Lamido presented the form to members of the PDP State Working Committee and other party stakeholders in the state. He sought their backing as preparations begin for the next electoral cycle.

The development has ended speculation that he might defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Reports had earlier suggested he held talks with the APC, but sources indicated that both sides could not reach an agreement.

Addressing party stakeholders, Lamido said consultations had been concluded and that he was ready to seek the party’s approval to run as its governorship candidate.

He said: “We are PDP card-carrying members, and we believe in our party’s philosophy, strength, and resilience to tackle its internal challenges and also surmount the problems militating against Jigawa and Nigeria if given the chance again.

“We have confidence in our party, and we believe the people of Jigawa and Nigerians believe in it as well. No other party has ever brought projects and programmes that improve their lives like that of PDP.

“All other political parties that got power after the PDP have failed woefully. Instead of addressing the social, economic, and security challenges militating against the country, they unfortunately ended up aggravating the situation through their poor leadership.”

Lamido also appealed for support from party members across the state. He assured them that he would continue to promote the core ideals of the PDP, which he said are rooted in patriotism and service to the people.
