The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has advised prospective female corps members not to apply henna on their fingers before reporting to orientation camps across the country.

The scheme said the substance could disrupt biometric fingerprint capture, which forms part of the compulsory registration process at the camps.

In a statement posted on its verified X handle, the NYSC stated: “Female prospective corps members are advised to avoid applying henna on their fingers before going to camp, as it will affect their biometric fingerprint capture during registration.”

The agency explained that unclear fingerprints could slow down documentation and create challenges during camp registration.

According to the NYSC, some affected corps members may experience delays in clearance and movement from the orientation camps if their fingerprints cannot be properly captured.

The scheme also urged prospective corps members to ensure their fingers remain clean before arriving at camp.

The advisory added: “Do not apply henna (mehndi) on your fingers before travelling to camp. Ensure your fingerprints are clean and clear at all times.

“Your smooth registration depends on clear fingerprints. Avoid henna, avoid delay.”

The warning comes as many Nigerian graduates prepare for the next batch of the compulsory one-year national service programme.

Biometric registration remains one of the major requirements in the orientation camp process because it is used for identification and official documentation.
