The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays for the Eid ul Adha celebration.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the declaration reflects the government’s recognition of the religious importance of the festival to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful at home and in the diaspora on the occasion. He described Eid ul Adha as a period that promotes sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion towards others.
The minister also urged Nigerians to use the holiday period to pray for the country and reflect on the need for peace, security, and national progress.
“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement said.
The announcement comes as Muslims across the country prepare for one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar.
