The Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Dr. Tanimu Yakubu, has revealed that the federal government is currently funding the capital component of the 2024 budget with revenue generated under the 2025 fiscal year.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ engagement on the implementation of the 2025 capital budget, Yakubu said the arrangement was necessary to ensure the continuation of key infrastructure projects despite funding gaps.

Of the N34 trillion appropriated in the 2024 budget, N19 trillion was earmarked for capital expenditure. However, delays in revenue inflows last year meant some projects had to be rolled over, now being financed with earnings from the current budget cycle.

Yakubu assured that the government remains committed to completing all critical projects, adding that fiscal adjustments are being made to prevent future overlaps between budget years.
