Kebbi State has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Emir of Zuru, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (Gomo II). He passed away at the age of 81 in a London hospital after a brief illness.
The Kebbi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar-Dutsinmari, confirmed the passing of the revered monarch in a statement issued on Sunday.
Late Emir Sami, a retired Major General in the Nigerian Army, ascended the throne as the Emir of Zuru in 1995. Over the years, he was celebrated for his military career, leadership qualities, and his dedication to the unity and development of the Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State at large.
Tributes have begun pouring in from political leaders, traditional rulers, and members of the public, who described him as a man of peace and a custodian of culture who worked tirelessly for the progress of his people.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the Kebbi State Government and the Zuru Emirate Council in the coming days.
