The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the immediate suspension of train services on the Abuja-Kaduna corridor following a derailment incident on Sunday.

The development comes as the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed it has launched a full-scale investigation into the cause of the derailment, which occurred along the busy route linking the Federal Capital Territory with Kaduna State.

Eyewitnesses reported that the derailment, though not fatal, left several passengers stranded and sparked concerns over the safety of the line. Emergency teams were quickly deployed to the scene, and all passengers were safely evacuated.

In a statement, NRC said the suspension was necessary to allow for a thorough investigation and repairs on the affected section of the track. “Passenger safety remains our top priority, and services will resume only after all safety checks are completed,” the corporation said.

The Abuja-Kaduna rail line, one of the busiest in the country, has faced security and operational challenges in recent years, with the latest derailment raising fresh concerns about maintenance and safety standards.
