A new analysis has revealed that Lagos State alone secured Federal Executive Council (FEC) project approvals worth N3.9 trillion in the last two years of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration — a figure higher than the combined N3.56 trillion allocated to 18 states across the South East, North West, and North East.

According to findings by Daily Trust, the approvals in Lagos represent 111 per cent of what was granted to the three geopolitical zones put together.

Regional Breakdown

Between August 2023 and August 2025, FEC approved a total of N15.79 trillion in projects nationwide. The South West received the largest share with N5.97 trillion, followed by:

* South South: N2.41 trillion

* North West: N2.7 trillion

* North Central (including Abuja): N1.15 trillion

*South East: N407.49 billion

*North East: N403.98 billion

Out of the total, about N2.70 trillion was approved for legacy road projects cutting across multiple regions, though without a detailed breakdown.

The analysis shows Lagos not only outpaced all other states individually but also eclipsed three full regions combined, underscoring the state’s prominence in federal project approvals.

The figures have already generated discussions about regional equity in federal allocations and the concentration of capital projects within Nigeria’s commercial hub.
