European-American University has disowned a purported convocation ceremony said to have been held at NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, describing it as fraudulent and unauthorized.
In a statement on Wednesday, the institution said reports in some sections of the Nigerian press claiming it organized the event were false, stressing that it had no knowledge of, or consent for, the gathering.
“The University has not authorized any convocation to be held in this location today, and this event has been organized fraudulently without the knowledge or consent of the University,” the statement read.
The school further clarified that it had not awarded honorary doctorate degrees to Dauda Kahutu Rarara, Alhaji Ahmed Saleh Jnr., Mustapha Abdullahi Bujawa, or Tarela Boroh, whose names were circulated in connection with the alleged ceremony.
“All holders of degrees from the University are listed in the Register of Graduates… These individuals are not honorands of the University and have no legitimate connection with us,” the institution added.
European-American University also dismissed claims that one Musari Audu Isyaku was its “Northern Nigeria representative,” stressing that he has no authority to represent the institution.
The University urged the public to disregard the reports and warned against dealing with individuals misrepresenting its name.
