Strong indications have emerged that former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is in advanced talks with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over a possible return to the ruling party.

Party insiders in Kano disclosed that Kwankwaso has already written to the APC national secretariat in Abuja, formally notifying the party of his intention to defect.

Another source at the APC headquarters confirmed that the former Defence Minister has been holding consultations with the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, in what appears to be the final stage of negotiations.

“The discussions have been ongoing, and plans have reached an advanced stage,” the source said, noting that Kwankwaso’s return could significantly alter the political landscape in Kano ahead of 2027.

Kwankwaso, who leads the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and contested the 2023 presidential election under its platform, was a founding member of the APC before leaving the party in 2018.

If finalized, his defection would mark a major realignment within northern politics and could further strengthen the APC’s hold in Kano State, a strategic stronghold in Nigerian elections.
