Despite repeated denials from the Nigerian presidency, U.S. Congressman Rep. Riley M. Moore has reiterated claims that about 7,000 Christians have been killed across Nigeria in 2025 alone.

In a recent interview with Fox News, the lawmaker described the situation as a “tragedy that has been going on for decades without anyone talking about it.”

Moore, alongside U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, recently called for Nigeria to be redesignated as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over what they describe as the ongoing massacre of Christians.

However, presidential aide Daniel Bwala has dismissed these claims several times, maintaining that Nigeria’s security challenges are not religiously motivated but rather a result of broader criminal and insurgent activities.

Still, Rep. Moore maintained his stance during the interview, insisting that roughly 35 Christians are being killed daily.

“7,000 Christians have been murdered in Nigeria this year. That’s 35 Christians murdered per day. It’s a tragedy that cannot be ignored any longer,” Moore said.

“That’s why I sent a letter to @SecRubio to redesignate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern. It’s time we took a stand to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ,” he added.

The claim has reignited international debate about religious persecution in Nigeria, with Christian advocacy groups urging the U.S. government to take stronger diplomatic action.
