Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has accused former U.S. President, Barack Obama, of playing a role in his loss during the 2015 presidential election.

Jonathan made the allegation in his new book, My Transition Hours, which is set to be launched on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

In the book, Jonathan claimed that Obama displayed “unusual bias” during the 2015 polls and interfered in Nigeria’s internal political affairs through his public statements and video messages to Nigerians.

“On March 23, 2015, President Obama himself took the unusual step of releasing a message to Nigerians ahead of the 2015 general election. In that video, Obama urged Nigerians to open the next chapter by their votes,” Jonathan wrote.

According to the former president, Obama’s message was overbearing and condescending, suggesting a preference for regime change at the time.

Jonathan lost the March 28, 2015 election to Muhammadu Buhari, who secured over 15 million votes, marking the first time an opposition candidate had won a presidential election in Nigeria.

Buhari went on to serve two terms and later handed over power to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29, 2023, at Eagle Square in Abuja.

However, Buhari passed away on July 13, 2025, after a prolonged illness.
