US Senator Ted Cruz has announced plans to publicly name Nigerian officials allegedly responsible for sponsoring the killing of Christians in Nigeria.

In a video shared across his social media accounts, Cruz addressed the worsening insecurity in Nigeria and praised former US President Donald Trump for designating Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over the persecution of Christians by Boko Haram and other groups.

“There is no country on earth where Christians are more persecuted than Nigeria,” Cruz said.

The senator, who has long advocated for sanctions against those responsible for religious persecution, said he has been pushing legislation to impose penalties on Nigerian officials linked to the violence.

In his post accompanying the video, Cruz wrote: “I’ve been pushing legislation to designate Nigeria a CPC and to impose sanctions on the Nigerian officials responsible. Thank you to President Trump for his leadership in imposing the designation, and more broadly, for fighting to stop the murder of Christians in Nigeria.”
