According to sources, insurgents struck the convoy in Borno State, overwhelming the troops. Multiple military personnel and CJTF volunteers were said to have been killed, while the Brigade Commander, along with other soldiers, was seized.

This capture — if confirmed — would signal a dramatic escalation: it would be the first publicly reported case of an extremist group in Nigeria abducting a high-ranking, serving officer straight from the frontline.

HumAngle notes that ISWAP has increasingly targeted military logistics routes, especially on “vulnerable … convoy operations,” exploiting gaps in armoured support and situational awareness.

The Nigerian Army has not yet released an official statement confirming the abduction, but security analysts warn the incident could embolden insurgents and damage troop moral
