In a bold security proposal, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa has called for the construction of a wall along the country’s borders to combat rising insecurity.
“We must secure our nation. Building a border wall will help prevent the influx of arms, terrorists, and other criminal elements,” Gen. Musa stated during a recent security briefing.
Nigeria shares thousands of kilometers of porous borders with neighboring countries like Niger, Chad, Cameroon, and Benin — often exploited by smugglers, insurgents, and traffickers.
The call comes amid ongoing challenges with terrorism, banditry, and illegal migration, especially in northern border regions.
The idea is stirring national debate — with some supporting it as a security necessity, while others question its feasibility and cost in a country already grappling with economic hardship.
