UK Rejects Nigeria’s Request to Transfer Ekweremadu’s Prison Sentence

In a major diplomatic development, the United Kingdom has declined the Federal Government of Nigeria’s request to allow former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu to return home and complete his prison sentence in Nigeria.

Ekweremadu, who was convicted in the UK for organ trafficking, is currently serving his jail term in a British correctional facility.

The Nigerian government had sought his transfer under international prisoner transfer agreements, but UK authorities have reportedly turned down the request.

Sources indicate that the British government maintained that the conditions surrounding Ekweremadu’s conviction do not support a transfer, insisting he must continue serving his sentence within the UK.

The decision marks a significant setback for the former lawmaker, whose family and political associates had been hopeful for a transfer that would bring him closer to home.
