Gunmen attacked the convoy of former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North. Ngige was not in the convoy when the attack happened.

The assailants, reportedly dressed in police and army uniforms, opened fire on the pilot vehicle. A policeman in the car was shot, and the attackers took his rifle and uniform. The vehicle was heavily damaged by bullets.

A woman who was recording the incident on her phone was shot dead. A shop owner who rushed out to see what was happening was also hit by bullets. He lost a lot of blood but survived. Doctors plan to remove the bullets, and he is expected to make a full recovery since none of the shots affected his spine.

The escort team leader who was shot has already undergone surgery and is also expected to fully recover. No police officer died in the attack.

Ngige’s former media aide, Sir Fred Chukwuelobe, confirmed the incident and said the former governor has spoken with the injured officers and is ensuring they receive proper medical attention. He also sent condolences to the family of the woman who was killed.
