The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Calabar (UniCal) chapter, has called on the Federal Government to immediately implement the recommendations of the Prof. Nimi Briggs-led committee.

Dr. Peter Ubi, Chairman of the ASUU UniCal chapter, made the appeal during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Calabar.

He emphasized that the full implementation of the committee’s report—set up to renegotiate the 2009 Federal Government–ASUU Agreement—remains crucial to resolving longstanding issues affecting public universities in the country.

NAN reports that the Nimi Briggs committee was constituted by the Federal Government to review and update the 2009 agreement, which covers conditions of service, funding for revitalisation, university autonomy, and other key demands central to academic stability.

Dr. Ubi stressed that years after the committee concluded its work, the recommendations have yet to be put into action, resulting in continued tension between the union and the government.
