The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as the country’s new Minister of Defence, following an intensive five-hour screening session held on Tuesday.

General Musa, who previously led the nation’s armed forces, faced a rigorous round of questioning from lawmakers, addressing key issues ranging from national security strategy to military welfare, insurgency response, defence procurement, and inter-agency coordination.

Senators described the screening as “thorough and necessary”, given the critical security challenges facing the country. Musa, known for his frontline experience and leadership during major counter-terrorism operations, assured the upper chamber of his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

With his confirmation, General Musa is expected to assume office immediately and begin work on revitalizing defence operations nationwide.

This appointment marks a significant shift in the nation’s security leadership, as Nigerians watch for the reforms and policies the new Defence Minister will bring to address ongoing threats.
