Senate President Godswill Akpabio has filed a defamation suit against Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over sexual harassment allegations she made against him in February.
Akpabio is seeking N200 billion in general damages and N500 million in litigation costs, as well as a public apology and a retraction of the claims in national newspapers.
The suit, filed on 25 August at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, was submitted by his counsel, S. I. Ameh (SAN).
In case CV/3356/2025, Akpabio argued that the allegations severely tarnished his reputation and subjected him to public ridicule. The suit includes his statement of claim and witness testimonies asserting that the accusation made them view him as someone who abuses his office for personal gratification.
A 6 November court order granted Akpabio permission to serve court processes on Akpoti-Uduaghan through the Clerk to the National Assembly, after previous attempts to serve her directly failed.
