Borno Spent ₦100bn on Security This Year – Governor Zulum

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has revealed that his administration has spent about ₦100 billion in 2025 alone to strengthen security across the state.

Zulum disclosed this on Thursday, December 4, during a visit to the Emir of Uba, Ali Ibn Mamza, at his palace in Uba town, Askira/Uba LGA. He explained that the visit was to assess the worsening security situation, noting that persistent attacks have forced contractors to abandon major road projects.

The governor said insecurity has made development difficult, stressing that no contractor is willing to work in high-risk areas. To tackle this, he announced plans to establish a quarry site in Gwoza and acquire 100 trucks for the state road maintenance agency to begin constructing and repairing roads internally.

He lamented that the ₦100bn spent on security could have been invested in education, health and other key developmental projects if peace had been restored.

Zulum assured residents that road construction would soon begin, alongside new plans for higher institutions, computer centres and other community projects.

Responding, the Emir of Uba praised the governor’s efforts despite ongoing security challenges, saying the people remain grateful and will continue to pray for lasting peace in Borno and Nigeria.

The governor’s revelation highlights the heavy financial burden insecurity continues to place on Borno’s development.
