Wike Denies Reports He Was Arrested in France

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has dismissed claims that he was arrested in France, describing the rumour as a politically driven attempt to distract him.

Wike reacted on Friday while speaking to journalists after inspecting the ongoing construction of an interchange bridge linking Maitama, Gishiri, Jahi, and Gwarimpa in Abuja.

Joking about the rumour, he said, “Well, what is important is that you remain focused. As you said, they were the ones that were arrested.”

He described the claim as part of a growing pattern of misinformation targeted at him, recalling earlier rumours alleging that he had been flown abroad due to illness.

“Last time they said I was sick and flown overseas. This time, they said I was arrested in France. I’m doing my job,” Wike said.

The minister, who has intensified supervision of major infrastructural projects in the FCT, stressed that his main priority is fulfilling the mandate given to him by President Bola Tinubu.

“Critics will always try to play politics, critics will always not be happy that you are doing well. So just focus. Do not be distracted at all,” he added.
