President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to implementing the Supreme Court judgment granting financial autonomy to local governments, warning that governors who fail to comply risk losing portions of their federal allocations.

Speaking at the 15th APC National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, Tinubu said the judgment must be obeyed, stressing that continued resistance could force him to take executive action.

The President also called for unity and tolerance within the APC, describing them as core progressive values needed to sustain democracy and good governance. He reiterated his support for state police as a key tool in tackling insecurity and urged the National Assembly to put safeguards in place to prevent abuse.

Tinubu backed increased women’s participation in elective offices and advised lawmakers against centralising lottery operations, saying they fall under state jurisdiction.

Vice President Kashim Shettima praised Tinubu’s leadership, saying any coalition against him ahead of 2027 would be politically unwise. APC Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda announced plans for nationwide e-registration of party members and extended party executives’ tenure to March 2026.
