The Federal Government has confirmed that Nigeria’s new tax laws will take effect on January 1, 2026, as scheduled.
In a statement on Tuesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said the reforms, some of which began on June 26, 2025, are aimed at resetting the country’s tax structure, promoting harmonisation, and strengthening the social contract—not increasing taxes.
The Presidency dismissed reports of possible changes to the laws, stating that no substantial issues have been identified to warrant a delay. President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to due process and pledged continued collaboration with the National Assembly to address any concerns.
The government assured Nigerians that the reforms will be implemented in the public interest to support prosperity and shared responsibility.
