Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has accused the Federal Government of using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to persecute him because he refused to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the allegation on Wednesday in Bauchi while signing the 2026 appropriation bill into law. He said one of his commissioners is currently being detained by the EFCC and has not been released.

Speaking openly, Mohammed said:

“As a governor, someone who is the head of the opposition, my commissioner has been kept and will not be released by the EFCC.”

He also expressed shock that his name was mentioned in a court motion despite his constitutional immunity as a sitting governor.

“Even when I have immunity as a governor, my name was stupendously mentioned in a motion in a court of law in Nigeria. Me, Bala Mohammed,” he said.

According to the governor, the APC-led Federal Government believes it can use state institutions and the courts to intimidate and prosecute Nigerians who are not members of the ruling party. He described this as an abuse of power aimed at silencing opposition voices.

Mohammed, however, insisted that no amount of harassment or pressure would force him to defect to the APC, stressing that he remains firm in his political position.
