Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South, has officially defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Abaribe announced his defection on Wednesday in Enugu, shortly after former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr Peter Obi, formally joined the ADC.
The senator had joined APGA in 2023 after leaving his former party to contest and win the Abia South senatorial seat. Speaking at the event, Abaribe declared his full loyalty to the ADC and described Peter Obi as his political leader.
He said:
“Let me also announce that I have resigned from the All-Progressive Grand Alliance. So as of now, I am fully in ADC.”
Explaining his decision, Abaribe added:
“Following my brother and our leader, Mr Peter Obi, I wish all of us well, and I know that we’re going to get there.”
His defection adds to the growing number of prominent politicians aligning with the ADC ahead of future political contests.
