The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed claims that it is being positioned to advance the presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC is a self-governing party that does not belong to or operate under the control of any single individual.
According to him, the party remains open to all Nigerians, including high-profile politicians such as Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, stressing that collective ownership is a core principle of the ADC.
“Those of us within the ADC know that the party does not belong to any one person. That is why someone like Peter Obi can join, and why Rotimi Amaechi is already a member,” Abdullahi said.
He described claims linking the party exclusively to Atiku’s ambition as unfounded, adding that such narratives are often pushed by people who do not understand the ADC’s internal structure. Abdullahi also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of fueling the speculation in an attempt to interfere in the party’s affairs.
Reassuring members and the public, he stated that the ADC’s presidential candidate would emerge through a transparent and credible process, noting that no outcome has been predetermined.
“Whoever eventually becomes our presidential candidate, whether Atiku or any other aspirant, will emerge through due process,” he added, reiterating that the ADC is not anyone’s personal political platform.
