The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected claims that it is considering a replacement for Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released in Abuja on January 26, 2026, the ruling party said it had taken note of rising media reports and public discussions suggesting a possible change in the party’s presidential ticket.

The APC explained that the reports, which began as quiet speculation, recently escalated with the circulation of names of individuals alleged to be potential replacements for Vice President Shettima.

The party dismissed the reports, stating clearly that “the stories are purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless.”

It cautioned media organisations against amplifying what it described as rumours from questionable and mischievous sources, stressing that such narratives were aimed at creating disunity and uncertainty within the political environment.

According to the APC, existing laws and electoral guidelines still prohibit political activities at this time. The party said its attention remains firmly on governance, with continued backing for President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima as they work to implement the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The statement added that the reforms introduced by the current administration are focused on economic recovery, national prosperity, and improved living standards for citizens.

The APC also called on ministers, senior government officials, and party leaders to refrain from actions or comments that could fuel unnecessary speculation. It urged them to remain committed to effective service delivery and to promote the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration.
