President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday held a meeting with Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, at the State House in Abuja following the recent terrorist assault in the state.

The discussion came after a deadly attack on Nuku and Woro communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, where no fewer than 75 residents were reported killed. Several houses were also set on fire during the incident.

Rauf Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara governor, told journalists that many of the victims were moderate Muslims targeted by extremists.

According to him, they were killed for “refusing to surrender to extremists who preached a strange doctrine”.

In response to the violence, President Tinubu directed the immediate deployment of an army battalion to the affected local government area.

The president stated that the newly deployed military formation would lead “Operation Savannah Shield” to “checkmate the barbaric terrorists and protect defenceless communities”.

The meeting between the president and the governor focused on the security situation in Kwara as well as measures to prevent further attacks.

Authorities say security operations are being intensified to restore calm and safeguard residents in the troubled communities.
