Operatives of the Benue State Police Command have foiled a suspected kidnapping plot and rescued a woman and her daughter in Tsegbum Community, off Naka Road in Makurdi.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday when armed men allegedly broke into the residence of Mrs. Kate Ijuo, 42. The attackers were said to have planned to abduct her alongside her child.
A source within the command disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer of ‘D’ Division, Makurdi, received an emergency distress call from the victim. He promptly mobilised a joint security response team.
The team comprised police operatives, personnel of the OPS Zenda Joint Task Force, the Anti-Cult Unit and the Cybercrime patrol squad.
According to the source, the suspects fled immediately they noticed the arrival of security personnel, abandoning their mission and leaving the victims behind.
“The victims were rescued unhurt, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and effect their arrest,” the command said.
The police also advised residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies without delay.
