A new ranking has revealed the African currencies with the highest exchange rate value in 2026, offering insight into the relative strength of economies across the continent.

The latest figures show that while African economies continue to adjust to changing global and regional realities, some national currencies have maintained stronger values. Analysts say exchange rate strength often reflects factors such as monetary policy direction, trade performance, and overall economic stability.

1. Tunisia – 2.86 Tunisian Dinar
The Tunisian Dinar occupies the number one position this year. Its performance is linked to Tunisia’s comparatively stable economic environment and its solid trade standing within North Africa.

2. Libya – 6.31 Libyan Dinar
Libya’s national currency ranks second on the list. The Libyan Dinar remains widely used across the country despite years of economic and political disruptions.

3. Morocco – 9.01 Moroccan Dirham
Morocco’s Dirham continues to show resilience. The country’s economy benefits strongly from tourism, agriculture, and phosphate exports.

4. Ghana – 10.84 Ghanaian Cedi
The Ghanaian Cedi holds a prominent place in West Africa. Ghana’s global relevance in gold and cocoa exports supports the currency’s standing.

5. Botswana – 13.05 Botswana Pula
Botswana’s Pula, whose name means “rain” in Setswana, reflects prosperity and economic steadiness. The nation’s diamond industry remains a key pillar behind its value.

6. Seychelles – 13.90 Seychellois Rupee
The Seychellois Rupee derives strength from the island nation’s tourism-driven economy, which continues to attract international visitors.

7. Eritrea – 15.00 Eritrean Nakfa
Introduced in 1997, the Nakfa represents Eritrea’s push for monetary autonomy and financial control.

8. South Africa – 15.87 South African Rand
The Rand is one of the most recognized currencies on the continent. It plays a central role in trade across southern Africa.

9. Eswatini – 15.90 Swazi Lilangeni
Eswatini’s Lilangeni is pegged to the South African Rand. The arrangement underscores economic cooperation between both nations.

10. Lesotho – 15.90 Lesotho Lot
The Lesotho Lot, also linked to the Rand, circulates alongside it. The currency supports domestic trade and national monetary operations.

The ranking highlights how exchange rate value varies widely across Africa. It also reflects the diverse economic structures that shape currency performance from one country to another.
