The Nigerian military has confirmed the neutralisation of scores of armed bandits in coordinated land and air operations following a deadly three-pronged attack on forward operating bases in Niger and Kaduna States on Tuesday, June 24.

According to military sources, the simultaneous attacks occurred in the Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka areas of Niger State, as well as Aungwan Turai in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The bandits launched the assaults in a coordinated manner, targeting troops stationed in the affected regions.

Troops from both land and air components swiftly launched counter-offensives, engaging the attackers in intense battles that lasted throughout the day. Military airstrikes and ground assaults successfully eliminated dozens of the heavily armed insurgents, disrupting what appeared to be a large-scale coordinated offensive by the criminals.

However, the military also confirmed that several gallant personnel paid the supreme price during the engagements. Four other soldiers who sustained gunshot wounds are currently receiving treatment at a military medical facility, with hopes for their full recovery.

“The Nigerian Armed Forces salute the courage and sacrifice of the fallen heroes who gave their lives to protect our nation,” a senior military official said in a statement. “Their bravery and commitment shall never be forgotten.”

Security analysts suggest the incident underscores the persistent threat posed by armed non-state actors in parts of northwestern and northcentral Nigeria, despite ongoing military operations in the region.

As the military continues clearance and mop-up operations in the affected areas, authorities have assured residents of heightened security and ongoing efforts to prevent future attacks.
