Lawyer and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has called on Nigerians to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he says offers a platform to address the country’s major challenges.
Okonkwo explained that his decision to align with the party was influenced by its constitutional commitment to the welfare of citizens.
In a video shared on his X page, the former Nollywood actor spoke about why he joined the party. He said: “I joined this great party because the constitution of our great party says we are in pursuit of the welfare of the nation and our people.”
Okonkwo, who previously served as a spokesman for the Labour Party presidential campaign, said Nigeria has endured serious difficulties due to insecurity and poor governance. He added that the ADC intends to provide solutions to these problems.
“This country has suffered so much because of the lack of security of its citizens and the ADC has come to the rescue of Nigerians,” he said.
He stated that his move to the party forms part of an effort to help reposition the nation. He also encouraged Nigerians to support the party.
“I joined ADC as part of the rescue team and I’m urging all Nigerians to join ADC so that we will save our country from imminent collapse,” he added.
Okonkwo warned that the country may struggle to cope with another four years of the current economic and security challenges. He cited the rising cost of fuel, insecurity and corruption as major concerns.
“We will not be able to endure four more years of unavailability and high cost of fuel, insecurity, corruption, incompetence. We are now a laughing stock around the whole nation,” he said.
He also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying Nigeria might not withstand another term under the party’s leadership.
“ADC for the rescue, we may not survive another four years of the incompetence and corruption of the APC,” he said.
