Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has described himself as an Islamist and a jihadist while discussing his religious beliefs.
Dokubo made the remarks in a video that has circulated widely on social media. In the footage, he spoke about the meaning of the name he now uses and said it reflects his personal convictions and faith.
During the video, Dokubo stated: “I’m a Jihadist, my name is Mujahed, he who carries out Jihad, that is what it means in Arabic.”
He explained that the name represents an identity he deliberately chose for himself.
“That is the name I adopted,” he said.
Dokubo also stressed that he practices Islam without hesitation or fear.
“Listen to me very well, I’m an Islamist, I’m a Muslim without apologist and fear,” he added.
The former militant leader has long been known for making strong statements on national matters and issues affecting the Niger Delta region.
